hear oral arguments in Gilmore v. Gonzalez at the 9th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals, 8 Dec 2005

A friend, John Gilmore, is finally having oral arguments heard in his court case this Thursday, 8 Dec 2005. John is one of the EFF founders and continues to support efforts to protect and defend the U.S. Constitution. Alas, I'll be in San Diego and will have to miss another court appearance.

Gilmore v. Gonzalez
On the 4th of July 2002, John Gilmore, American citizen, decided to take a trip from one part of the United States of America to another. He went to Oakland International Airport -- ticket in hand -- and was told he had to produce his ID if he wanted to travel. He asked to see the law demanding he show his 'papers' and was told after a time that the law was secret and no, he wouldn't be allowed to read it.

From 9th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals Oral Arguments in Gilmore v. Gonzalez:

John Gilmore is to have his day in court.

Oral arguments in the case of Gilmore v. Gonzalez are to be heard by the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. At stake is nothing less than the right for all Americans to travel freely in their own country without 'papers'.

Friends and supporters of John are welcome to attend this historic hearing, but are asked to please dress appropriately for court. John would like nothing more than to have the public gallery filled to the brim with fellow Americans who care as much as he does about the US Constitution.
